Pupil Leadership Opportunities
Pupil Leadership
At Bredon Hill Academy, we believe that pupils should have the chance to develop and practise their leadership skills. Consequently, pupils can contribute to school life by taking on a range of roles and responsibilities. Such leadership opportunities help prepare our pupils for the next stage in their education and for life beyond school.
Leadership Opportunities for our Pupils:
School Prefects:
Year 8 pupils can apply to become a school prefect at one of three recruitment points during the year. All staff are invited to participate in the selection process. Prefects support positive behaviour throughout school and act as role models to other pupils. Their roles include lunchtime duties, meeting and greeting new pupils and parents, supporting at key events, such as parents evenings and open evening and representing school in the local community such as at church services.
Senior Prefect Team:
Our Senior Prefect Team consists of a Headboy, Headgirl, Deputy Headboy and Deputy Headgirl. Such positions are chosen by key staff. The Senior Prefect Team take on additional whole school responsibilities. For example, they support and co-ordinate the Prefect Team, lead the School Council and promote the Pupil Voice, present housepoint totals in school assemblies and speak at key events, such as at New Parents’ Evening.
Reading Buddies:
Year 8 pupils participate in the reading initiative. The older students volunteer and are then paired with a Year 6 student to help them improve their literacy by listening to them read during form time.
School Council:
Every form in each year group is responsible for electing form representatives who attend School Council meetings. The School Council provide a forum where form representatives raise issues, discuss improvements and devise solutions to address issues. The Headboy and Headgirl are responsible for setting the agenda, issuing minutes and reporting to the SLT. Form Representatives present outcomes to their forms.
Eco Committee:
Each form group elect an Eco-Rep. Our Eco Committee promote environmental issues and support sustainability across the school. They meet weekly to plan future developments and form eco-action teams with their peers.
Sports’ Team Captain:
Team Captains play a key role in both home and away fixtures. They are responsible for preparing the team for a match and leading any warm-up activities.
Form Captains:
Form Captains are voted by pupils in each form group. Form Captains are key in supporting form tutors and members of their forms.
Gardeners:
Gardeners volunteer to look after our school gardens. They help at least once a week. Their role includes planting, growing, watering and nurturing our grounds. Head Gardeners are pupils in Year 7 and 8 who have maintained the gardens over four consecutive seasons. This allows them to have an in-depth knowledge of our plants and habitats. Head Gardeners give tours to visitors and support our pupils in our gardens.
